The crew of the $8 million yacht Lovebug had to leave the ship when it sank in the Rhode River in Maryland on July 27, 2024.
Around 12:30 in the afternoon, the 122-foot Italian-built yacht that was moored at the Annapolis Yacht Club apparently listed dangerously to starboard.
The Maryland Natural Resources Police and U.S. Coast Guard sent out reaction teams promptly after receiving a distress call.
Lovebug looked to be lying on its starboard side at the river’s bottom by the late afternoon, when it was spotted listing at around 70 degrees.
The rescue effort was aided by a good samaritan vessel, which included Trevor Hardman of Tour Boat Annapolis.
According to Hardman, every survivor was doing well.
When they arrived, the captain was the last person on board, Hardman said Eye on Annapolis. Before leaving the ship, he added, the yacht started to absorb water and shifted to shallow water. As they got closer, they could also hear the deafening water alarms.
With jet ski storage and zero-speed stabilizers, the yacht, which was formerly known as Anastasia M, could house eight crew members and eleven guests.
Boat International said that the boat could be rented for $125,000 per week.
